Relationship between Invert-Filling Disengaging and Deformation of Shield Tunnel Using Staggered Assembled Segment

Hao Jin et al.

Summary: This study establishes a 3D numerical model to investigate the impact of disengaging between invert filling and segment on the safety of train operation in a three-ring staggered assembled shield tunnel. By inserting cohesive elements, the fracture process of the invert filling-segment interface is simulated, and the relationship between the deformation of the tunnel and the disengaging of the invert filling is explored. The study reveals that the development of invert filling disengaging affects the internal forces of the tunnel segments.

Prediction of corrosion-induced concrete cracking under external loading and stirrup constraint

Y. X. Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the corrosion-induced concrete cracking in three concrete beams with stirrups under external loading coupled with accelerated corrosion. The results show that external loading leads to earlier cracking and the stirrup constraint significantly influences cracking distribution and steel corrosion. An analytical model predicts cracking adequately when considering external loading and stirrups.

Study on the damage evolution in secondary tunnel lining under the combined actions of corrosion degradation of preliminary support and creep deformation of surrounding rock

Guowen Xu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a numerical approach to study the damage evolution of secondary tunnel lining under the combined actions of corrosion of the preliminary support and the creep deformation of the surrounding rock. The improved numerical approach contains three main models, with corresponding failure criteria developed and programmed using FLAC3D's FISH language programming. The validity of the models was verified through investigating the mechanical response of the supporting structures.

A study on damage mechanism modelling of shield tunnel under unloading based on damage ? plasticity model of concrete

Jianwen Liu et al.

Summary: This study presents a rational modeling procedure for the damage mechanism and serviceability of shield tunnel under unloading based on damage constitutive model of concrete. The research shows that tension damage dominates while compression damage is minor when shield tunnel suffers unloading stress, causing additional shear force and bending moment. The proposed modeling procedure is competent to capture the shield tunnel responses due to unloading, highlighting areas with severe damage and lowest serviceability that require special attention.

Corrosion-induced cracking propagation of RC beams subjected to different corrosion methods and load levels

Xiaoyi Xu et al.

Summary: The study identified three types of corrosion-induced cracks in concrete and highlighted the strong constraint effect of stirrups. The cracking process was divided into two stages, with a significant leap in crack length ratio at a critical time. Accelerated corrosion tests underestimated the cracking damage compared to natural conditions.

A level set model by regularizing local fitting energy and penalty energy term for image segmentation

Soumen Biswas et al.

Summary: The proposed level set model integrates local fitting energy information and penalty energy function for segmenting intensity inhomogeneous images. By using a circular window filter to identify homogeneous regions and constructing local fitting functions, the model enhances segmentation accuracy. Experimental results demonstrate the robustness and accuracy of the model compared to other level set models and deep learning based level set models.

Experimental and numerical investigation on cracking mechanism of tunnel lining under bias pressure

Dejun Liu et al.

Summary: Bias pressure is a key factor leading to lining cracking in tunnels. The study found that there is one intrados crack and two extrados cracks in the center of the bias pressure acting region, with the eccentricity of the lining cross section being a key factor controlling crack evolution. The applicability of the extended finite element method (XFEM) in simulating lining cracking was validated in this study.
