Experimental study of thermal comfort in a field environment chamber with stratum ventilation system in winter

Fanghui Cheng et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively investigated subjective perceptions in a field environment chamber heated by stratum ventilation. Overall discomfort was related to the perception of being cooler than thermally neutral, with the head having the greatest influence on overall comfort followed by the feet. The dissatisfaction rate due to discomfort, mainly from cold feet, could exceed 10% if the feet sensation was lower than -0.5.

Investigation of thermal comfort of room air conditioner during heating season

Zixu Yang et al.

Summary: The main factors affecting thermal comfort of convective terminals during the heating season have been extensively studied in recent years. This investigation aimed to analyze thermal comfort under typical settings and integrated control strategies. The study used a questionnaire, laboratory measurements, and artificial chamber simulations to examine the effects of draft, vertical temperature difference, and control strategies. The results showed that people were more tolerant of draft than vertical temperature differences and that perceived control significantly reduced discomfort. There were no significant differences between different control strategies, except for a long-term shutdown.

Draught sensation assessment in an occupied space heated by stratified ventilation system: Attachment ventilation with relayed fans

Bin Zhou et al.

Summary: This study aimed to quantify the thermal sensation and air movement acceptability of occupants in an occupied space with stratified convective-heating systems. Results showed that subjects were more sensitive to local air movement at both calves and ankles, and low air temperature and high air speed may cause complaints about unacceptable air movement.

Comparative study on energy consumption and indoor thermal environment between convective air-conditioning terminals and radiant ceiling terminals

Wei Liao et al.

Summary: Comparative experimental studies were conducted on convective air-conditioning and radiant ceiling terminals to examine their differences in energy consumption and thermal comfort. The results showed that the radiant ceiling terminal outperformed the convective air-conditioning terminal in terms of energy savings and indoor thermal comfort.

Comparison of thermal comfort between radiant and convective systems using field test data from the Chinese Thermal Comfort Database

Heng Du et al.

Summary: This study compares indoor thermal environment and thermal comfort between radiant and convective systems in continuous operating mode. The analysis includes hypothesis tests on thermal environment parameters and human subjective responses. The results show evidence of overheating in radiant systems during heating season, but no practical difference in air temperature between the two systems during cooling season. The study also analyzes and compares different indexes, finding little practical difference in thermal comfort vote between the two systems at the same PMV interval. The findings provide insights for thermal environment design and thermal comfort evaluation under different HVAC systems.

Comparison study of thermal comfort and energy saving under eight different ventilation modes for space heating

Xiangfei Kong et al.

Summary: This study compared the thermal comfort and energy efficiency of eight ventilation modes for space heating, showing that optimal thermal comfort is achieved when inlets are placed at mid-height level of a wall and outlets are at the same or higher level, while energy efficiency is improved when inlets are at lower level and outlets are far from the inlets. The introduction of economic-comfort ratio provided a comprehensive analysis of both thermal comfort and energy efficiency.
