Research of Nanomaterials as Electrodes for Electrochemical Energy Storage

Nataliya N. Yazvinskaya et al.

Summary: This paper experimentally demonstrates that a large amount of hydrogen accumulates in the metal-ceramic and pocket electrodes of alkaline batteries during their operation. The hydrogen is stored in the electrodes in an atomic form and it undergoes a powerful exothermic reaction upon release, leading to thermal runaway in alkaline batteries. The gravimetric capacities of hydrogen storage and energy density in the electrodes are higher when obtained through the electrochemical method compared to the traditional thermochemical method.

Transition to Renewable Energy for Communities: Energy Storage Requirements and Dissipation

Efstathios E. Michaelides

Summary: The transition to renewable energy sources in residential communities is crucial for decarbonization and reducing CO2 emissions. This study presents information on developing a microgrid in the North Texas region, using wind and solar energy to meet the energy demand of a 10,000-house community, with hydrogen as the energy storage medium. The results indicate that a combination of wind and solar installations can enable decarbonization in such communities.

Accelerating Efficient Installation and Optimization of Battery Energy Storage System Operations Onboard Vessels

Wei He et al.

Summary: This study aims to close the gap between government-supported BESS initiatives and actual integration results on vessels, promoting BESS as the preferred solution for ship owners. The study reviews industrial approaches and the effects of BESS installations, identifies the urgent need for interface standardization, and develops new operational models. It also establishes acceleration scenarios for technical and operational transferability using digitalization.

Nickel-cadmium batteries with pocket electrodes as hydrogen energy storage units of high-capacity

Nikolay E. Galushkin et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the hydrogen accumulation in the pocket electrodes of Ni-Cd batteries and their storage energy density, with experimental validation. The results show that the hydrogen storage capacity of the oxide-nickel electrode exceeds previous studies and DOE requirements, and factors affecting hydrogen accumulation vary when using graphite as the electrode active material.
