The antiestrogen-like activity and reproductive toxicity of 2,6-DCBQ on female zebrafish upon sub-chronic exposure

Weiyi Song et al.

Summary: This study found that exposure to 2,6-DCBQ can cause reproductive impairments in female zebrafish, including delayed puberty onset, retarded ovarian growth, and breakdown of the zona radiata. In contrast, no adverse impacts were noted in male testes. The results suggest that these effects may be associated with a significant reduction in 178-estradiol (E2) level induced by 2,6-DCBQ.

Neurotoxicity and transcriptome changes in embryonic zebrafish induced by halobenzoquinone exposure

Xue Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the neurotoxicity of halobenzoquinones (HBQs) on zebrafish embryos. The results showed that HBQs could decrease the locomotor activity of zebrafish larvae, reduce neurotransmitters and acetylcholinesterase activity, and inhibit the expression of genes involved in neuronal morphogenesis. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that HBQ exposure affected the signaling pathways of neural development.

Dinitroaniline herbicide pendimethalin affects development and induces biochemical and histological alterations in zebrafish early-life stages

Carmine Merola et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the potential effects of PND on the development of zebrafish early-life stages. The results showed that PND exposure caused mortality and sublethal alterations in the fish, including impaired fin development, delayed ossification of the vertebral column, disrupted muscle morphology, and increased neurotoxicity. In addition, biochemical changes in antioxidant enzymes were observed. These findings confirm the developmental toxicity of PND in zebrafish and suggest the role of oxidative stress in the sublethal alterations.

Aconitine disrupts serotonin neurotransmission via 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor in zebrafish embryo

Hao Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the neurotoxicity of aconitine from Aconitum plants on zebrafish embryos and found that aconitine-induced coiling behavior in a dose-dependent manner is mediated through the 5-HT receptor system. Exposure to aconitine increased serotonin receptor gene expression initially, but decreased it at later stages, suggesting a complex relationship between aconitine and serotonin regulation.

Bioconcentration and developmental neurotoxicity of novel brominated flame retardants, hexabromobenzene and pentabromobenzene in zebrafish

Xiangping Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, the flame retardants hexabromobenzene (HBB) and pentabromobenzene (PBB) were found to exhibit developmental neurotoxicity in zebrafish larvae, affecting parameters related to central nervous system development. However, they did not cause developmental toxicity. These findings provide important insights for future toxicological research and risk assessment of novel brominated flame retardants.

Transcriptomic analysis of adult zebrafish heart and brain in response to 2, 6-dichloro-1, 4-benzoquinone exposure

Chen Xiao et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the toxicological mechanisms of 2,6-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinone (2,6-DCBQ) exposure on zebrafish cardiovascular and brain systems. The exposure led to oxidative stress, tissue changes, and differential gene expression, which were involved in crucial biological processes and pathways in the heart and brain.

Do Single-Component and Mixtures Selected Organic UV Filters Induce Embryotoxic Effects in Zebrafish (Danio rerio)?

Jana Cahova et al.

Summary: The study found that the mixture of OC and 4-MBC poses a greater risk of embryotoxicity for zebrafish, with the most affected sub-lethal endpoints being hatching and malformation. There are different effects on fish between single UVs and their mixtures.
