Multiple Tethyan ocean basins and orogenic belts in Asia

Ian Metcalfe

Summary: The evolution of Tethyan ocean basins in Asia spans over 500 million years, involving opening and closure of oceans, collision of continental blocks, and formation of major orogenic belts. This complex geological history has shaped Asia's landscape and mineral resource distribution significantly.

Late Paleozoic tectonic evolution of the North Tianshan Belt: New structural and geochronological constraints from meta-sedimentary rocks and migmatites in the Harlik Range (NW China)

Xinghua Ni et al.

Summary: This study conducted field investigations and LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating on metamorphic rocks in the Julideneng Metamorphic Complex in the Harlik Range, proposing new insights into the late Paleozoic tectonic evolution in the region. The research suggests that the meta-sedimentary rocks and migmatites in the JMC were formed during the late Silurian to late Carboniferous, with detrital zircons potentially derived from the Central Tianshan Block. The migmatization and granitic plutonism in the JMC likely occurred around 322-297 Ma, possibly related to crustal thinning.

Tectonic evolution of Mohe area, North-east China: Evidence from the Early Ordovician to Early Cretaceous magmatism and tectonism

Long Chen et al.

Summary: This article presents new zircon U-Pb ages and data on whole-rock major and trace elements for the granitic rocks in the Mohe Basin of North-east China, revealing the tectonic evolution history of the area. The magmatic activities from the Early Ordovician to Early Cretaceous are divided into six stages, with distinct origins and settings for the granitic rocks formed during different time periods. Each stage of magmatic activity is consistent with the magmatism and tectonism of the Erguna Block, indicating complex tectonic processes over geological time scales in the region.

A new tectonic framework for the composite orogenic metallogenic systems in the east of North China: The role of the Heilongjiang Ocean in the Late Paleozoic to Mesozoic

Gong-Yu Li et al.

Summary: The composite orogenic belt in the east of North China has undergone multiple stages of geological activities influenced by different tectonic domains, with the Heilongjiang Ocean proposed as a critical driver of the Paleozoic tectonic evolution. A new tectonic framework explains the tectonic evolution of the Jiamusi-Khanka Massif in different periods, eventually rejoining with the Central Asian Orogenic Belt.
