Geochemical characteristics of the Paleozoic natural gas in the Yichuan-Huanglong area, southeastern margin of the Ordos Basin: Based on late gas generation mechanisms

Ziqi Feng et al.

Summary: Based on the analysis of gas samples, the Yichuan-Huanglong area shows dichotic alkane components and relatively higher wetness in the natural gas present. The carbon isotopic compositions exhibit partial reversal, with Permian natural gas showing abnormally low δ C-13(-C2H6) values. Mixing and diffusion effects illuminate the isotopic anomalies of the alkane gas.

Preservation of organic matter in shale linked to bacterial sulfate reduction (BSR) and volcanic activity under marine and lacustrine depositional environments

Quanyou Liu et al.

Summary: The study highlights the significant impact of sulfate reduction on organic matter preservation, with higher SRI values leading to extensive organic matter consumption and lower SRI values resulting in minimal degradation effects.

New approaches to distinguish shale-sourced and coal-sourced gases in petroleum systems

V. Alexei Milkov

Summary: Current methods correlating thermogenic gases with shale and coal source rocks are unreliable and not globally applicable. A new approach based on stable carbon isotopes provides a more accurate separation of shale-sourced and coal-sourced gases, which has been tested and validated in several petroleum systems.

Biostratigraphy and reservoir characteristics of the Ordovician Wufeng Formation-Silurian Longmaxi Formation shale in the Sichuan Basin and its surrounding areas, China

Wang Hongyan et al.

Summary: By identifying graptolites and analyzing the characteristics of shale samples from the Ordovician Wufeng Formation-Silurian Longmaxi Formation in the Sichuan Basin, the different graptolite zones with varied mineral composition, TOC content, and lamina types have been sorted out. The deposition environments and conditions during the formation of these graptolite zones play a significant role in determining the mineral composition, TOC, and lamina types of the shale layers within each zone.
