Reassessment of ocean paleotemperatures during the Late Ordovician

Bryce B. Barney et al.

Summary: The study indicates that the Late Ordovician climate in the Cincinnati Arch was warmer than modern subtropical seas, likely influenced by the upwelling of cool water. Though previous studies have reported higher temperatures, correcting for reordering effects did not significantly change the overall findings.

Revisiting the Permian seawater 87Sr/86Sr record: New perspectives from brachiopod proxy data and stochastic oceanic box models

Wen-qian Wang et al.

Summary: The Permian Period experienced unprecedented Earth system changes, transitioning from icehouse to greenhouse conditions and facing two biocrises associated with volcanisms. Seawater Sr isotope records can illuminate the Permian Earth system evolution, but face issues such as low resolution and potential diagenetic alteration. New research suggests that changes in hydrothermal input, rather than continental weathering intensity, may have been the primary driver of the observed variations in Permian seawater 87Sr/86Sr ratios.
