Enhanced Antibiofilm Activity of Endophytic Bacteria Mediated Zirconium Nanoparticles

Summary: The biofilm formation of oral pathogens was studied using endophytic bacteria-mediated zirconia nanoparticles, which enhanced the antibiofilm activity and displayed potential as a dental restorative agent. Biogenic zirconium nanoparticles synthesized using reducing agents from Terminalia chebula, an endophytic bacteria, were characterized for their dental restorative application. The shape and size of nanospheres were confirmed by SEM/EDAX, and their chemical groups were analyzed using XRD and FTIR, which showed antagonistic effects on biofilm. The nanoparticles were evaluated for antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antibiofilm activities against disease-causing pathogens and tested for biocompatibility with Human Primary Gingival fibroblast cell lines. Thus, endophytic bacteria-mediated zirconia nanoparticles were biologically assessed against oral pathogens and demonstrated their potential as dental restorative biomaterial.

In Silico and In Vitro Screening of Antipathogenic Properties of Melianthus comosus (Vahl) against Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Summary: Bacterial quorum sensing system plays a crucial role in regulating virulence and biofilm formation, with the potential to contribute to nosocomial infections. This study focused on evaluating extracts from the medicinal plant Melianthus comosus, identifying phytochemical compounds that have the ability to inhibit QS-dependent virulence factors in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The tested guanosine showed promising anti-quorum sensing potential, inhibiting biofilm formation and significantly restricting motility in P. aeruginosa. Overall, both Melianthus comosus extracts and guanosine demonstrated clear antibacterial effects against P. aeruginosa, suggesting their potential as candidates for antipathogenic drugs against P. aeruginosa infections.
