Current progress in cancer immunotherapy based on natural killer cells

Yasin Bagheri et al.

Summary: Cancer remains a common disease with treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, but a definitive therapeutic approach is still lacking. Immunotherapy, particularly utilizing natural killer (NK) cells, is a promising new strategy that can provide better outcomes compared to existing therapies. Understanding the biology of NK cells and their role in recognizing and responding to cancer cells may offer new insights into cancer immunotherapy and overcoming immune surveillance evasion mechanisms. Research is ongoing to optimize protocols for NK cell-targeted cancer immunotherapy, including proliferation methods and reducing potential side effects.

On-Chip Biogenesis of Circulating NK Cell-Derived Exosomes in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Exhibits Antitumoral Activity

Yoon-Tae Kang et al.

Summary: NK cells and their derived exosomes play a crucial role in cancer immunotherapy, as they exhibit high stability and lower immunogenicity, providing possibilities for personalized treatments. A novel microfluidic system for collecting patient-specific NK cells and NK-exosomes on chips offers potential applications in cancer therapies.

Therapeutic Silencing of BCL-2 Using NK Cell-Derived Exosomes as a Novel Therapeutic Approach in Breast Cancer

Kuebra Kaban et al.

Summary: The overexpression of antiapoptotic protein BCL-2 is linked with ER expression in breast cancer, and a novel treatment strategy using NK cell-derived exosomes as carriers for BCL-2 targeted siRNAs has been proposed. This approach has shown to enhance the killing ability of NK cell-derived exosomes by silencing BCL-2 overexpression and targeting oncogenes in breast cancer.
