A Unifying Approach for GFR Estimation: Recommendations of the NKF-ASN Task Force on Reassessing the Inclusion of Race in Diagnosing Kidney Disease

Summary: This retrospective study analyzed 398 T2DM patients and found that non-linear eGFR trajectories are common in patients who rapidly progress to ESRD, with African-Caribbean ethnicity and glycemic variability being associated with specific non-linear eGFR trajectories. Predicting renal function decline based on eGFR trajectories and associated risk factors may enable individualized risk stratification and care for patients at high risk of rapid progression to ESRD.
