Nanocavity-Mediated Fast Magnetic Vortex Core In-Situ Switching by Local Magnetic Field

Xiao-Ping Ma et al.

Summary: Fast in situ switching of magnetic vortex core in a ferromagnetic nanodisk assisted by a nanocavity is achieved by applying a local magnetic field within a small area at the center of the nanodisk. This results in a fast switching time of about 35 ps with relatively low field strength, which is beneficial for fast data reading and writing. The alignment of magnetic spins around the nanocavity along the cavity wall due to shape anisotropy when a perpendicular field is applied facilitates the vortex core switching.

Unidirectional switching of magnetic vortex core in a nanocavity mediated nanodisk: Looking for a reliable low-power-driven and fast switching in terms of geometric parameters

Xiao-Ping Ma et al.

Summary: The study investigates the reliable unidirectional switching of a magnetic vortex core driven by a continuous rotating magnetic field using a permalloy nanodisk with a nanocavity inserted in the center in combination with micromagnetic simulations. It is found that the nanocavity modulates the modes of core motion differently based on its size, reducing the threshold field amplitude required for vortex core switching for convergence mode. The confinement of the nanocavity to the core is mediated by the cavity height, and low-power-driven fast unidirectional switching is achievable by carefully choosing the value of the nanocavity height.

Control of magnetic vortex circulation in one-side-flat nanodisk pairs by in-plane magnetic filed

Ma Xiao-Ping et al.

Summary: The circulation direction of magnetic vortices in nanodisks can be controlled by introducing asymmetry and varying the thickness. In experiments, controlling the four circulation ground states was achieved by introducing nanodisks with different thicknesses. The method proposed in this study provides a simple means of controlling the vortex state for designing vortex-based devices.
