Summary: A new extinct genus of the Diptera family Therevidae is described from the Lower Cretaceous Crato Formation of Northeastern Brazil. This new finding sheds light on the minimum age of therevoids, and falsifies current biogeographical hypotheses standing for a North American origin of the family Therevidae.

Towards an actualistic view of the Crato Konservat-Lagerstatte paleoenvironment: A new hypothesis as an Early Cretaceous (Aptian) equatorial and semi-arid wetland

Summary: This study proposes a new hypothesis on the paleoecological and paleoenvironmental conditions of the Crato Konservat-Lagerstätte, suggesting it was a seasonal, semi-arid shallow lacustrine wetland based on the ecology of extant relatives of fossil groups. The fossils were found to be mainly autochthonous to parautochthonous and were preserved through base-level fluctuations in a shallow lacustrine system subject to periodic flooding. Exceptional preservation in these environments was mediated by microbial processes.

The diverse composition of insect fauna found in Burmese amber, including species associated with different ecological environments and vegetation types, was discussed in detail. The study also reclassified certain insects and proposed new taxonomic classifications.
