Transition metal-based metal-organic frameworks for environmental applications: a review

Yeisy C. Lopez et al.

Summary: Rapid industrialization is deteriorating air and water quality, leading to the need for efficient and affordable remediation strategies. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are emerging materials for environmental remediation applications, with unique properties for the removal and conversion of pollutants. Transition metal frameworks have shown promise in capturing and converting gaseous pollutants, while also being studied for the removal of chemical warfare agents.

A Series of new Urea-MOFs Obtained via Post-synthetic Modification of NH2-MIL-101(Cr): SO2, CO2 and H2O Sorption

Niels Tannert et al.

Summary: By post-synthetically converting the amino group in MOF NH2-MIL-101(Cr) into urea groups, four novel urea-MOFs were derived. Among them, the partially p-toluenesulfonyl-urea-modified MOF exhibited exceptional SO2 adsorption capacity due to favorable dipole interactions between SO2 and the sulfonyl group.

Zirconium and Aluminum MOFs for Low-Pressure SO2 Adsorption and Potential Separation: Elucidating the Effect of Small Pores and NH2 Groups

Philipp Brandt et al.

Summary: Research on Zr- and Al-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for SO2 adsorption showed that frameworks with pore sizes in the range of 4-8 angstroms exhibit optimal sorption capabilities at low pressures. MOFs with NH2 functional groups tend to have enhanced affinity for SO2. Stability tests and density functional theory (DFT) simulations provided insights into the adsorption mechanisms and binding energies of different MOFs towards SO2.
