Freeze-thaw behavior of calcium carbide residue-plant ash stabilized marine soft clay

Chuanxin Du et al.

Summary: This research evaluates the influence of calcium carbide residue and plant ash on the mechanical properties and freeze-thaw performance of solidified marine soft clay. The study shows an improvement in compressive strength with increasing content of these materials, but the strength gradually decreases with the increase in freeze-thaw cycles. The stabilization mechanism and influence of freeze-thaw cycles on solidified soil with plant ash and CCR are also analyzed and discussed.

Preparation of building materials from Bayer red mud with magnesium cement

Wei-Ying Li et al.

Summary: Influences of red mud on the properties of magnesium oxychloride cement (MOC) and magnesium oxysulfate cement (MOS) were studied, showing that red mud significantly enhanced compressive strength and water resistance of the cement. The research results indicate the potential of red mud as a modifier of magnesium cement and its application in the field of building materials.

Recovery of iron from high-iron red mud using suspension magnetization roasting and magnetic separation

Jianwen Yu et al.

Summary: An innovative suspension magnetization roasting followed by magnetic separation process was developed to recover iron from high-iron red mud. Under the optimized conditions, an iron concentrate with high purity and recovery rate was obtained. The suspension magnetization roasting converted hematite into magnetite, improving the magnetism, and also allowed hematite and alumina to enter the iron concentrate, increasing the aluminum content.

A green method for solidification and recovery of soluble sodium in red mud via super-gravity

Jintao Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, a green method was developed to solidify and recover soluble sodium in red mud using a super-gravity process, effectively eliminating its high alkalinity. The process involved iron-slag melting separation to recover metallic iron and enrich sodium in a Na-rich slag, followed by selective solidification of sodium into anorthite and subsequent separation using supergravity. The recovery ratio of sodium in anorthite was up to 97.09%. The pH of both anorthite and residue products decreased, and the leaching rates of Na+ significantly decreased compared to red mud.

Sustainable use of red mud in ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC): Design and performance evaluation

Dongshuai Hou et al.

Summary: This paper explores the use of red mud as a mineral additive in ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC). Results show that adding red mud can enhance the early-age durability of UHPC, but reduce workability and mechanical properties. Applications in complex-shaped buildings may be affected, but still feasible for general construction.
