Influences of PCE superplasticizers with varied architectures on the formation and morphology of calcium hydroxide crystals

Jian Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of polycarboxylate (PCE) superplasticizers on calcium hydroxide (CH) precipitation and morphology, revealing that the presence of polymers significantly reduces the crystal size of CH and increases the specific surface area. Polymers with higher carboxylic group density have a stronger influence on CH precipitation, while the effect of solely sulfonic group charged polymers is negligible.

Effects of polyurethane-silica nanohybrids as additives on the mechanical performance enhancement of ordinary Portland cement paste

Jianfeng Ma et al.

Summary: Using organic-inorganic nanocomposites as enhancers can significantly improve the mechanical properties of cement paste. The PU-silica nanohybrids synthesized in this study showed good enhancement effects and promoted the formation of more C-S-H.

The effects of graphene oxide-silica nanohybrids on the workability, hydration, and mechanical properties of Portland cement paste

Roozbeh Mowlaei et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that increasing the thickness of silica coating on graphene oxide nanohybrids reduces the workability of cement paste but enhances its mechanical properties. The addition of GOS leads to an increase in compressive strength of cement paste, with the increase being proportional to the thickness of the coating.

Comparative study of PCE superplasticizers with different anchoring groups in low water-to-binder ratio cementitious material

Shengnan Sha et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the density and configuration of anchoring groups in Polycarboxylate Ether (PCE) superplasticizers significantly influence their adsorption behavior and dispersibility in cementitious pastes. Specifically, FA-PCE with a large specific charge density shows excellent flowability and rheological properties in cementitious pastes.

Study on alkylsilane-incorporated cement composites: Hydration mechanism and mechanical properties effects

Mingjun Xie et al.

Summary: The length of alkyl chain in silanes affects the hydration process and mechanical properties of cement, with shorter chain resulting in stronger retardation of hydration. Changes in porosity due to silane incorporation may also contribute to the decrease in mechanical properties. Additionally, SEM images reveal the formation of fiber-like needle products on the surface of hydrated cement, which are likely composed of specific types of silanes produced from the reaction between calcium hydroxide and silane.
