Optimal ThrowBoxes assignment for big data multicast in VDTNs

Summary: Nowadays, vehicles are equipped with various sensors that generate big data constantly. Among them, multimedia contents form the major part of the total generated data. In this paper, an optimal data packet assignment algorithm is proposed to achieve global maximum delivery utilities among ThrowBoxes. Real-world data tracing results show that the proposed scheme outperforms in terms of delay, delivery ratio, cost, and other metrics.

Summary: Recent advances in Delay Tolerant Networks have been integrated into the Internet of Things to create a new framework called DTN-IoT. The deployment of strategic nodes known as throwboxes has been proposed to increase communication opportunities among nodes and overcome intermittent connectivity issues in DTN-IoT. Efficient algorithms are used to identify optimal deployment locations for throwboxes by maximizing coverage, minimizing delay, and maximizing delivery ratio among all nodes.
