Spatial variability of soil quality within management zones: Homogeneity and purity of delineated zones

Mojtaba Zeraatpisheh et al.

Summary: The study identified management zones through soil quality assessment and found different soil quality grades within each zone. The research provides a framework to investigate the homogeneity of delineated management zones in terms of soil quality.

Optimal scaling of predictors for digital mapping of soil properties

Andrei Dornik et al.

Summary: A new algorithm is introduced in the study to derive terrain attributes at different scales for optimal mapping of soil properties, highlighting the importance of scaled predictors in improving mapping accuracy. Results showed that optimized predictors led to more accurate and less uncertain soil property maps compared to original not scaled or all multiscale predictors.

GIS-based soil maps as tools to evaluate land capability and suitability in a coastal reclaimed area (Ravenna, northern Italy)

Mauro De Feudis et al.

Summary: This study aimed to build land capability and suitability maps using a multi-thematic approach by GIS in a salt-affected coastal area of Italy. The results showed that most of the area is suitable for cultivation, but some areas are limited due to high sand content and sea water intrusion. Classifying lands based on land capability and suitability can help define the best agricultural practices in conflicting agricultural productivity and environmental impact areas.

Assessing land suitability for rainfed paddy rice production in Zambia

Mirriam Makungwe et al.

Summary: Rice is a staple food and profitable crop in Zambia, but domestic production does not meet demand due to low productivity. A study aimed to develop a land suitability index for rainfed paddy rice production, revealing limited potential with less than 20% of land classified as highly or moderately suitable. Assessment of irrigated and upland rice production potential is needed to expand rice production area in Zambia.

Can We Use Machine Learning for Agricultural Land Suitability Assessment?

Anders Bjorn Moller et al.

Summary: This study explored the suitability of specialty crops in Denmark using machine learning and compared it to the mechanistic model ECOCROP, finding little agreement between the two methods. The research suggests that machine learning predicts socioeconomic suitability while the term land suitability may lead to misinterpretation, highlighting the importance of distinguishing between socioeconomic and ecological suitability in agricultural land assessment.
