Determining closest targets on the extended facet production possibility set in data envelopment analysis: Modeling and computational aspects

Qingyuan Zhu et al.

Summary: In the context of data envelopment analysis (DEA) methodology, determining the closest targets on the efficient frontier has become a topic of increasing interest. Various approaches have been proposed in the literature, but many of them either lack strong monotonicity or are too complex for practical use. This paper introduces a Mixed Integer Linear Program (MILP) based on the extended facet production possibility set (EFPPS) to find the closest efficient targets, which addresses these limitations.

Measuring the energy production and utilization efficiency of Chinese thermal power industry with the fixed-sum carbon emission constraint

Feng Li et al.

Summary: With the rapid development of the Chinese economy, China has become one of the largest countries in terms of energy consumption and carbon emissions. The Chinese government recently announced its dual carbon policy target, aiming to achieve carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. The thermal power industry, as a crucial energy sector and source of carbon emissions in China, plays a vital role in meeting energy needs and achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality. In this study, a two-stage data envelopment analysis approach is proposed to measure and analyze the energy production-utilization efficiency of the Chinese thermal power industry, considering the fixed-sum carbon emission constraint. The empirical analysis focuses on the provincial level from 2015 to 2019, providing insights into the energy production-utilization efficiency of the thermal power industry in China.

Cross-efficiency evaluation in data envelopment analysis based on the perspective of fairness utility

Qingyuan Zhu et al.

Summary: The article discusses the limitations of traditional DEA and cross-efficiency evaluation, highlighting the issue of nonunique optimal weights. It introduces the concept of fairness utility and proposes a secondary goal model to maximize the minimum fairness of other DMUs while maintaining the optimal efficiency of the evaluated DMU.

Does China's power supply chain systems perform well? A data-based path-index meta-frontier analysis

Jiasen Sun et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the sustainable performance and technology levels of power supply chain systems (PSCS) in various regions of China, indicating great potential for improvement and regional differences affecting technological heterogeneity. The model proposed in this study considers technological heterogeneity between PSCS and provides clear improvement directions for inefficient systems.

A data-based comparison of the five undesirable output disposability approaches in airline environmental efficiency

Qiang Cui

Summary: The research compared different disposal approaches using data from 29 international airlines, finding that the by-production model performed best in distinguishing airline environmental efficiency, while the unified natural and managerial disposability showed great performance in determining efficient and least efficient airlines. The undesirable output related indices played a more crucial role in the efficiency change of the by-production model.

The patterns and determinants of the carbon shadow price in China's industrial sector: A by-production framework with directional distance function

Zhiyang Shen et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on estimating the carbon shadow price through the application of the by-production model within a nonparametric framework, with a specific focus on China's industrial sector. The results indicate that the eastern region performs the best and that the carbon shadow prices are increasing in all regions, but further promotion of renewable energy sources could lead to a decline in the shadow price. Comparative analysis is conducted to examine the effects of axioms on the estimates of the carbon shadow price.

Data envelopment analysis cross efficiency evaluation with reciprocal behaviors

Feng Li et al.

Summary: This study considers reciprocal behaviors among DMUs, determines positive or negative behaviors using a novel threshold, and develops a game-like iteration process to adjust evaluation strategies. The optimal ultimate cross efficiency score with reciprocal behaviors is then calculated.

Analyzing sustainable power supply chain performance Evidence from China's provincial regions

Jiasen Sun et al.

Summary: This study introduces an improved DEA model to assess the sustainable performance of China's power supply chain (PSC). The findings show that the average efficiency of China's power retailing system is generally lower than the average efficiency of its power-generation system, and the power-generation performances of PSCs in East China and Northeast China are generally higher than in other regions.
