Machine-learning-based construction of barrier functions and models for safe model predictive control

Scarlett Chen et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a model predictive control method based on control Lyapunov-barrier function, utilizing a feed-forward neural network specified control barrier function and a recurrent neural network predictive model to stabilize nonlinear processes and ensure safety requirements. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is demonstrated through theoretical analysis and a chemical process example with bounded unsafe region.

Machine Learning Modeling and Predictive Control of the BatchCrystallization Process

Yingzhe Zheng et al.

Summary: This work develops a framework for building machine learning models and machine-learning-based predictive control schemes for batch crystallization processes. The study focuses on developing a one-dimensional population balance model and recurrent neural network (RNN) model to capture the dynamic behavior of the crystallization process and optimize the control.

The coefficient of determination R-squared is more informative than SMAPE, MAE, MAPE, MSE and RMSE in regression analysis evaluation

Davide Chicco et al.

Summary: Regression analysis is a key component of supervised machine learning, predicting continuous targets from other variables. While binary classification has targets with two values, regression can have multiple values. However, there is no consensus on a standard metric for evaluating regression results, with commonly used measures like MSE, RMSE, MAE, and MAPE having interpretability limitations.

Optimization of NARX Neural Models Using Particle Swarm Optimization and Genetic Algorithms Applied to Identification of Photovoltaic Systems

Ronnyel Carlos Cunha Silva et al.

Summary: In this study, genetic algorithms and particle swarm optimization were used to optimize the hyperparameters of neural models for identifying two photovoltaic systems. The results showed that PSO algorithm outperformed GA algorithm, and the neural models were more efficient and accurate than linear mathematical models. ESN-NARX and MLP-NARX neural models were considered the best in identifying the photovoltaic systems in Hamburg and Teresina, respectively.

Multi-timescale drought prediction using new hybrid artificial neural network models

Fatemeh Barzegari Banadkooki et al.

Summary: This study utilized new hybrid artificial neural network models to predict the groundwater resource index based drought in Yazd plain, Iran, using three optimization algorithms (SSA, PSO, GA) to find the best model parameters. The best input scenario was a combination of five-month-lagged GRI. The ANN-SSA model outperformed other models in reducing the mean absolute error.

Dynamic Modeling and Optimization of a Fixed-Bed Reactor for the Partial Water-Gas Shift Reaction

Pranav Kherdekar et al.

Summary: This study introduces a method for designing a specific fixed-bed reactor and analyzes the dynamic stability of the solutions obtained using the nondominated sorting genetic algorithm. The optimal values of decision variables are dependent on different objective functions and tolerable deviations, while the influence of steam to CO ratio on the H-2/CO ratio needs to be considered in terms of pressure drop and operating costs.

Preference Ranking on the Basis of Ideal-Average Distance Method for Multi-Criteria Decision-Making

Zhiyuan Wang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel MCDM method PROBID and its simplified variant sPROBID for multi-objective optimization in chemical engineering. Results show that PROBID is more consistent and robust in ranking compared to other MCDM methods tested, while sPROBID outperforms four out of seven methods in terms of ranking consistency.
