Lattice Boltzmann simulation of liquid water transport in gas diffusion layers of proton exchange membrane fuel cells: Parametric studies on capillary hysteresis

Patrick Sarkezi-Selsky et al.

Summary: Water transport through porous carbon felt gas diffusion layers (GDLs) was simulated using a 3D Color-Gradient Lattice Boltzmann model. The GDL microstructures were reconstructed from high-resolution X-ray micro-computed tomography (μ-CT) and a in-house algorithm was developed to distinguish carbon fibers and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Capillary hysteresis was investigated by simulating intrusion and drainage curves and comparing them to testbench data.

Palabos: Parallel Lattice Boltzmann Solver

Jonas Latt et al.

Summary: This article presents the scope, concepts, data structures and application programming models of the open-source Lattice Boltzmann library Palabos, which is specifically developed for applications with complex, coupled physics. Palabos offers a broad modeling framework capable of addressing various applications in the Lattice Boltzmann community, while maintaining solid computational performance. Additionally, benchmark simulations are provided as a proof of the quality of the implemented core functionalities.

Natural Convection Heat Transfer in a Porous Cavity with Sinusoidal Temperature Distribution Using Cu/Water Nanofluid: Double MRT Lattice Boltzmann Method

Hasan Sajjadi et al.

Summary: In this study, a new double multi relaxation time (MRT) Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) was used to analyze natural convection flow in a porous cavity with sinusoidal temperature distribution. The effects of different Darcy numbers, various Rayleigh numbers, and porosity on the heat transfer rate were studied. The results showed an increase in heat transfer rate with increasing Darcy number, porosity, Rayleigh number, volume fraction of nanoparticles, and phase deviation.
