Influences of propylene/propyne addition on toluene pyrolysis in a single-pulse shock tube

Wenyu Sun et al.

Summary: The study explores the potential interactions between toluene/benzyl and common C-3 combustion intermediates through toluene-propylene and toluene-propyne co-pyrolysis. Experimental results show increased reactivity in the conversion of toluene with the presence of propylene or propyne. The updated kinetic model accurately predicts measurements and the variation trends brought by different initial fuel compositions. Impacts of propylene and propyne on the species pool of toluene pyrolysis are discussed, with propyne showing more obvious influences on the interactions between toluene/benzyl and propyne/propargyl.

Probing PAH formation chemical kinetics from benzene and toluene pyrolysis in a single-pulse shock tube *

Wenyu Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pyrolysis of benzene and toluene under highly diluted argon conditions using GC/GC-MS diagnostics. Different behaviors in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon formation were observed in the two reaction systems, with benzene and toluene showing distinct pathways and species. The fuel-specific pathways had pronounced effects on PAH speciation, especially at lower temperatures, where fuel depletion was incomplete.

Detailed experimental and kinetic modeling study of toluene/C2 pyrolysis in a single-pulse shock tube

Wenyu Sun et al.

Summary: Experimental and kinetic modeling study investigated the influences of acetylene and ethylene on the species formation from toluene pyrolysis, revealing synergistic effects between fuel components and changes in species concentrations. Increased reactivity and peak concentrations of certain PAH species were observed with the addition of C-2 fuels, indicating complex interactions in the pyrolysis process.

Exploring pyrolysis and oxidation chemistry of o-xylene at various pressures with special concerns on PAH formation

Wenhao Yuan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the experimental and kinetic modeling of o-xylene pyrolysis and oxidation using flow reactor and jet-stirred reactor. The dominant products observed were styrene in pyrolysis and toluene and benzene in oxidation. The kinetic model of o-xylene was developed and validated against experimental data, showing o-xylyl radical as the dominant fuel consumption product.

Rapid soot inception via ?-alkynyl substitution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

Peng Liu et al.

Summary: The study presents a soot inception and growth pathway driven by peri-condensed aromatic hydrocarbons (PCAH) with an alkynyl substitution. This pathway is competitive under both low-temperature astrochemistry and high-temperature combustion conditions, and does not require Habstraction reactions, with high reaction rates.
