Potato starch derived N-doped carbon quantum dots as a fluorescent sensing tool for ascorbic acid

M. Preethi et al.

Summary: In this study, nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots were synthesized in one phase using ultrasonication with potato starch as carbon source and ethylenediamine as nitrogen source. The prepared N-CQDs showed a considerable quantum yield and blue fluorescence. Adding ascorbic acid can promote aggregation and electron transfer, leading to fluorescence quenching, with a linear relationship between N-CQDs and AA concentration observed. Practical application on vitamin C tablets demonstrated a high recovery rate, indicating the potential for deploying a vitamin C sensor.
