Reconstitution as an alternative method for 5-aminosalicylic acid intercalation in layered double hydroxide for drug delivery

Dextran sulfate-modified pH-sensitive layered double hydroxide nanocomposites for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis

Summary: A drug delivery system, LDH-MTX-DS, with targeting and pH-sensitivity was developed to reduce the side effects of methotrexate and enhance its anti-inflammatory effect in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. The in vitro release experiments showed faster drug release at pH 5.5, while in vivo pharmacodynamic experiments demonstrated significantly improved therapeutic efficacy in adjuvant-induced arthritis rats.

Layered double hydroxide-galactose as an excellent nanocarrier for targeted delivery of curcumin to hepatocellular carcinoma cells

Summary: This study developed a drug delivery system based on LDH and Gal for targeted delivery of Cur, showing promising results including high cytotoxicity and apoptosis effects on HepG2 cells. The Gal-Cur/LDH nanoparticles demonstrated a specific targeting efficiency due to higher cellular uptake via ASGP-receptors. Our findings suggest the Gal-Cur/LDH nanoparticles as an excellent carrier system for targeted delivery of Cur to hepatocellular carcinoma cells.

Boosting the anticancer activity of doxorubicin with a layered double hydroxide nanocarrier

Bioinspired Reactive Interfaces Based on Layered Double Hydroxides-Zn Rich Hydroxyapatite with Antibacterial Activity

Summary: This study focused on preparing potentially biocompatible reactive interfaces by combining layered double hydroxides (LDHs) and hydroxyapatite (HA) with Zn2+ and Ga3+ as intralayer constituents. The resulting HA@LDH composites showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa without cytotoxic effects on human osteoblasts. Additionally, the presence of HA in the composites reduced LDH toxicity towards human osteoblasts while maintaining bone-bonding ability.
