The global rice agriculture towards 2050: An inter-continental perspective

Parshuram Samal et al.

Summary: Although there is additional demand for rice per capita in Africa, the growth in rice consumption has slowed down or become negative in all continents. The future increase in rice demand will mainly come from population growth in Africa and Asia. Global rice production has been able to meet the demand, primarily due to growth in yield. However, Africa still lags behind other continents in achieving desired levels of yield. Therefore, further research efforts are needed across all continents, with a focus on Africa, to develop varieties with higher yield potential and desired grain quality.

Physiological, Transcriptomic Investigation on the Tea Plant Growth and Yield Motivation by Chitosan Oligosaccharides

Lina Ou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of chitosan oligosaccharides (COS) on tea plant growth and yield, and found that COS treatment can enhance antioxidant activity, increase chlorophyll and soluble sugar content. Field trials showed that COS treatment significantly increased tea buds' density, weight of 100 buds, and yield. Transcriptome analysis identified potential metabolic pathways involved in COS promoting tea plant growth.

Li-Bin Lin et al.

Summary: Sixteen metabolites, including seven C-7-alkylated salicylaldehyde derivatives and nine prenylated indole alkaloids, were isolated from the endolichenic fungus Aspergillus chevalieri SQ-8. Some of these compounds exhibited potent antibacterial, antineuroinflammatory, and antioxidant activities, with asperglaucins A and B showing potential as lead compounds for agrochemical bactericides. Additionally, compounds 6 and 10 demonstrated significant inhibition of nitric oxide production and phenolics 3-5 displayed antioxidative effects, suggesting the strain SQ-8 as a novel resource for bioactive metabolites.
