Summary: The study found a decline in hepatitis C incidence in MSM living with HIV in London and Brighton during the DAA era, with a significant reduction in treatment timing. Since the epidemic peak in 2015, there has been a 78% reduction in first-time hepatitis C infection rates and a 68% reduction in overall incidence.

Summary: The study shows that HIV-positive men who have sex with men are at high risk of HCV reinfection after clearance, with risk factors mainly related to sexual behaviors such as condomless anal intercourse, sharing of sex toys, and group sex.

Impact of Sexualized Substance Use and Other Risk Practices on HCV Microelimination in gbMSM Living with HIV: Urgent Need for Targeted Strategies. Results of a Retrospective Cohort Study

Maria Martinez-Rebollar et al.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the incidence of recently acquired hepatitis C (RAHCV) among people living with HIV (PLWHIV), with a focus on high-risk sexual practices among gay, bisexual and other men having sex with men (gbMSM). Despite a decline in RAHCV incidence since 2017, the rate of HCV reinfection has increased, particularly among individuals engaged in sexualized substance use and other risky behaviors. These findings emphasize the importance of tailored public health strategies to reduce transmission and achieve HCV microelimination in gbMSM living with HIV.
