The Association between Serum Bilirubin and Kernicterus Spectrum Disorder: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Nai Ming Lai et al.

Summary: The association between total serum bilirubin and kernicterus spectrum disorder was evaluated in this study. Total serum bilirubin appears to be associated with KSD in infants with certain risk factors, but no clear association was found in the overall neonatal population. One study showed that infants with hyperbilirubinemia are more likely to develop attention-deficit disorder and autistic spectrum disorder, with low certainty of evidence.
