Heterogeneity in patterns of progression of chronic kidney disease

Rajitha A. Abeysekera et al.

Summary: The study revealed different patterns of progression of chronic kidney disease, with most patients maintaining a stable estimated glomerular filtration rate over 2 years. There was a lack of agreement between various definitions of CKD progression. Age, degree of proteinuria at baseline, and CKD etiology were significantly associated with decline in eGFR over 2 years.

Chronic kidney disease

Kamyar Kalantar-Zadeh et al.

Summary: Chronic kidney disease is a progressive disease with no cure, and preserving kidney function through lifestyle adjustments and pharmacological interventions can improve outcomes. A plant-dominant, low-protein, and low-salt diet may help mitigate glomerular hyperfiltration and preserve renal function. Various pharmacotherapies can also be used to alter intrarenal haemodynamics and protect the kidney from further damage.
