NMRK2 Gene Is Upregulated in Dilated Cardiomyopathy and Required for Cardiac Function and NAD Levels during Aging

Cynthia Tannous et al.

Summary: DCM is a complex disease with limited therapeutic options. The Nmrk2 gene involved in NAD biosynthesis is activated in hearts of DCM patients, while its deletion in mice leads to cardiac remodeling and dysfunction resembling DCM. This highlights the potential therapeutic significance of targeting the Nmrk2 gene in DCM.

Influence of miR-221/222 on cardiomyocyte calcium handling and function

Maria Knyrim et al.

Summary: miR-221/222 in cardiomyocytes play a role in beta-adrenergic regulation of LTCC function, calcium handling, and beating frequency, leading to slower depolarization-dependent Ca2+ entry and increased proportion of non-responding cells. This study expands our knowledge about the role of these miRs in cardiac ion channel regulation.
