Ti3C2TX-Ethylenediamine nanofiltration membrane for high rejection of heavy metals

Jaewon Jang et al.

Summary: In a situation of generating large amounts of industrial wastewater worldwide, developing efficient technology to remove various types of heavy metal ions from wastewater is crucial. This study demonstrates the use of a functionalized Ti3C2TX-EDA membrane as the active layer of a nanofiltration membrane, which shows excellent rejection against six types of heavy metal ions and exhibits high pure water permeance and continuous nanofiltration performance.

Titanium Carbide MXene for Water Desalination: A Molecular Dynamics Study

Kazem Meidani et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that nanoporous 2D titanium carbide membranes can effectively reject over 99% of ions with a higher permeation rate compared to other materials. Factors such as pore size, MXene structure, and pore chemistry influence the water flux, with titanium-edged pores showing higher flux than carbon-terminated pores.

Wafer-Scale Lateral Self-Assembly of Mosaic Ti3C2Tx MXene Monolayer Films

Mehrnaz Mojtabavi et al.

Summary: This paper presents a lateral self-assembly method for wafer-scale deposition of a mosaic-type 2D MXene flake monolayer that spontaneously orders at the interface between two immiscible solvents. ReaxFF molecular dynamics simulations elucidate the interactions of a MXene flake with the solvents and its stability at the liquid/liquid interface, the prerequisite for MXene flakes self-assembly at the interface. Multiscale characterization of the resulting films reveals the mosaic structure and sheds light on the electronic properties of the films, which exhibit good electrical conductivity over cm-scale areas.

Static investigation of the small clusters on the Cu(111) and Au (111) surfaces

A. Kotri et al.

Summary: The study shows that small clusters diffuse on the Cu(111) and Au(111) surfaces mainly through zig-zag motion, concerted motion, and collective motion. Tetramer clusters have the lowest energy consumption during diffusion, requiring only two atoms to move simultaneously.

Heterostructures of titanium-based MXenes in energy conversion and storage devices

Nasir Mahmood Abbasi et al.

Summary: Due to shortcomings of graphene-based applications in certain electronic devices, researchers have been exploring alternative 2D materials such as MXenes. MXenes have unique properties like hydrophilicity and metallicity, making them a focus of research. However, MXenes also have deficiencies that need to be addressed, such as improving their conductivity.

In Situ Tensile Testing of Nanometer-Thick Two-Dimensional Transition-Metal Carbide Films: Implications for MXenes Acting as Nanoscale Reinforcement Agents

Yanxiao Li et al.

Summary: The in-plane mechanical behavior of stacks formed by titanium carbide MXenes was investigated in microscale uniaxial tensile experiments. The Young's modulus of MXene stacks remained almost constant, while the tensile strength decreased with an increase in the number of monolayers. The observed dependence of the tensile strength on the number of stacked MXene monolayers was attributed to defects in different layers within the multilayer MXenes.

Advances in electromagnetic shielding properties of composite foams

Biao Zhao et al.

Summary: In recent years, the issue of electromagnetic interference (EMI) radiation has become increasingly prominent, leading to the need for high efficiency materials to suppress EMI pollution. Traditional metallic shielding has limitations, while conductive polymer composites (CPCs) have attracted attention for their superior properties. Research on inorganic-based and polymer composite foams as EMI shielding materials will likely be the focus for future development.

Design of phosphorus-functionalized MXenes for highly efficient hydrogen evolution reaction

Youchao Kong et al.

Summary: By analyzing their dynamical, thermal, and mechanical stabilities based on first-principles calculations, 10 stable phosphorus-functionalized MXene structures were identified. These stable P-MXenes display high catalytic activity for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) with near-zero Gibbs free energies of hydrogen adsorption, comparable to platinum. The use of an explicit water model revealed that P-MXenes exhibit a high HER performance along the Volmer-Heyrovsky (V-H) process due to the low activation barrier.
