Micro-/mesopores confined ultrasmall Cu nanoparticles in SBA-15 as a highly efficient and robust catalyst for furfural hydrogenation to furfuryl alcohol

Summary: The main difficulty in the liquid phase furfural hydrogenation process is controlling the selectivity to the target product. A preparation method based on glycine-assisted in situ autocombustion is reported, leading to highly active, selective, and stable Cu supported catalysts. The resulting catalysts show exceptional features such as complete conversion of furfural and low loss of conversion and selectivity during recycling tests.
