Hydrogen bonding-induced oxygen clusters and long-lived room temperature phosphorescence from amorphous polyols

Ya-Ling Wang et al.

Summary: Developing non-conjugated luminescent polymers (NCLPs) with fluorescence and long-lived room-temperature phosphorescence is of great significance. The study investigates the luminescence behavior of polymethylol (PMO) and poly(3-butene-1,2-diol) (PBD) to reveal the clusteroluminescence (CL) mechanism. The results provide insights into the understanding of the CL mechanism of NCLPs and offer a new polymer design strategy for novel NCLP materials.

Nontraditional Organic/Polymeric Luminogens with Red-Shifted Fluorescence Emissions

Junwen Deng et al.

Summary: Nontraditional organic/polymeric luminogens, which lack conventional chromophores, have attracted significant attention for their fundamental understanding of photoluminescence mechanisms and potential applications. While most nontraditional luminogens emit blue fluorescence, there is limited research on those with green, yellow, and red emissions. Therefore, it is crucial to develop nontraditional luminogens with red-shifted emissions and understand their mechanisms.

The mysterious blue emission around 440 nm in carbonyl-based aliphatic clusteroluminogens

Zhiming Zhang et al.

Summary: Nonconjugated and nonaromatic heteroatoms-based structures have been found to exhibit visible emission at the clustering state, known as clusteroluminogens. The origin of this clusteroluminescence (CL) cannot be explained by traditional molecular photophysical theories, making investigation on CL significant. A common feature of C=O bond-based clusteroluminogens is the blue emission around 440 nm, which has been observed in various systems such as natural proteins, polyamide, polyester, and polyketone. The (n, pi*) transition of carbonyl group is suggested to be the most likely contributor to the 440 nm CL emission.
