Carbon dots confined in 3D polymer network: Producing robust room temperature phosphorescence with tunable lifetimes

Yingxiang Zhai et al.

Summary: This study presents a strategy for achieving ultra-long lifetime phosphorescence by using three-dimensional (3D) confinement of carbon dots in a polymer network. The obtained materials exhibited robust phosphorescence in different polar organic solvents, and the phosphorescence lifetime could be easily tuned by adjusting the amount of crosslinking or the drying temperature of the 3D molecular network. Furthermore, the as-obtained phosphorescent materials were successfully used to prepare flexible textiles. The research not only reveals a fundamental principle for constructing polymer materials with room temperature phosphorescence, but also provides new features for traditional carbon dots and polymers, expanding their potential applications.

Achieving blue water-dispersed room-temperature phosphorescence of carbonized polymer dots through nano-compositing with mesoporous silica

Chengyu Zheng et al.

Summary: This study presents a new design strategy to achieve stable room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials in water by confining carbonized polymer dots (CPDs) in amino functional mesoporous silica. The resulting MSNs-CPDs aqueous dispersion exhibits blue afterglow that lasts more than 3 seconds. The triplet excited states are protected from non-radiative deactivation through the double-confinement effect of covalent bonding fixation and mesoporous structure confinement. The potential applications of MSNs-CPDs in information security and ion detection are also explored.

Stimulus-responsive room temperature phosphorescence materials with full-color tunability from pure organic amorphous polymers

Dan Li et al.

Summary: The strategy of achieving stimulus-responsive ultralong room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) with color-tunable emissions using water as solvent in the preparation process is reported. By covalent linkage of arylboronic acids with different IC conjugations and polymer matrix of polyvinyl alcohol, the polymer films exhibit outstanding RTP performance. The RTP property of these materials is sensitive to water and heat stimuli. Furthermore, they have been successfully applied in multilevel information encryption and multicolor paper and ink.
