Surface-Engineered Homostructure for Enhancing Proton Transport

Faze Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes Ni doping as a method to enhance the proton transport properties of samarium oxide, resulting in high-performance ceramic fuel cells at low temperatures. The well-dispersed Ni-doped surface in Sm2O3 acts as proton channels for high-speed transport, achieving high ionic conductivity and power density.

Synergistic effect of sodium content for tuning Sm2O3 as a stable electrolyte in proton ceramic fuel cells

Enyi Hu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the enhanced stability of proton-conducting fuel cells by incorporating sodium content into samarium oxide. The presence of sodium induces phase transition of samarium oxide, resulting in fast proton transportation. By using Na-Sm2O3 as the electrolyte, the fuel cell shows improved performance with increased peak power density and extended stability.

Perovskites for protonic ceramic fuel cells: a review

Jiafeng Cao et al.

Summary: Protonic ceramic fuel cells (PCFCs) are a promising energy technology that can efficiently convert chemical energy into electric power at reduced temperature. The practical use of PCFCs relies on efficient key cell materials, such as electrolyte and electrodes, that meet various requirements. In the past two decades, researchers have extensively explored complex oxides with the ABO(3) perovskite or related structure as key materials in PCFCs due to their flexible composition and versatile properties. The material engineering of perovskite oxides for PCFCs is an important focus of research, with a particular emphasis on compositional engineering to modify the lattice structure, defect structure, and ionic transportation behavior of perovskite oxides.

Facile and reproducible method of stabilizing Bi2O3 phases confined in nanocrystallites embedded in amorphous matrix

Tomasz K. Pietrzak et al.

Summary: Bismuth sesquioxide (Bi2O3) has various phases depending on temperature, with the delta phase showing promising oxide ion conductivity for fuel cell applications but limited stability. A two-stage method was developed to stabilize Bi2O3 crystalline phases in nanocrystallites embedded in an amorphous matrix, enhancing its potential for practical applications. Studies involving DTA, XRD, optical, Raman, SEM, and EDS were conducted to investigate the influence of synthesis processes and determine conditions for phase stability at room temperature.

Self-Doping Surface Oxygen Vacancy-Induced Lattice Strains for Enhancing Visible Light-Driven Photocatalytic H2 Evolution over Black TiO2

Jiaqi Gao et al.

Summary: The synergistic effect of surface oxygen vacancy and induced lattice strains on black TiO2 can significantly enhance the photocatalytic H-2 evolution under visible light. The presence of surface oxygen vacancies leads to the formation of a high-energy surface, which improves visible light absorption and enhances the photoinduced charge separation efficiency. Additionally, the induced lattice strains provide a driving force for the directional movement of photoinduced electrons from the bulk to the high-energy surface, resulting in a 12-fold increase in the hydrogen evolution rate.
