Gallium containing bioactive materials: A review of anticancer, antibacterial, and osteogenic properties

Fatih Kurtuldu et al.

Summary: The incorporation of gallium into biomaterials has been shown to enhance their antibacterial, anticancer, osteogenesis, and hemostasis properties. Gallium can be efficiently transferred to the desired region at a controllable rate and has the potential to substitute antibiotics for wound infection inhibition. Therefore, gallium-containing biomaterials show great potential for multifunctional applications.

Toxic effects of thallium acetate by acute exposure to the nematode C. elegans

A. M. Varao et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the toxic effects of thallium acetate on early larval stages of C. elegans, finding that it caused reduced survival, delayed development, behavioral changes, oxidative stress responses, and reproductive damage. Additionally, the study showed that C. elegans has the ability to absorb and bioaccumulate thallium.

Geochemical behaviour and transport of technology critical metals (TCMs) by the Tinto River (SW Spain) to the Atlantic Ocean

Carlos Ruiz Canovas et al.

Summary: This study examines the behavior of several technology critical metals in the Tinto River, quantifying their fluxes to the Atlantic Ocean. Results show that most of these metals exhibit quasi-conservative behavior throughout the year, with dissolved thallium concentrations being strongly controlled by incorporation onto secondary minerals and diatoms. The remobilization of riverbed sediments leads to the transport of significant amounts of these metals associated with particulate matter.

Occurrence and Distribution of Technology-Critical Elements in Recent Freshwater and Marine Pristine Lake Sediments in Croatia: A Case Study

N. Bacic et al.

Summary: The study found the vertical distribution of various technology critical elements in sediment cores collected from protected lakes in Croatia. The concentrations of these elements were close to natural conditions and could serve as a reference for future sediment systems. Some lakes showed slight anthropogenic enrichment of Sb and Te in the upper sediment layers, possibly due to atmospheric deposition.

Selected technology-critical elements as indicators of anthropogenic groundwater contamination

Nitai Amiel et al.

Summary: Groundwater contamination from anthropogenic industrial activities is a global concern, with the selected Technology-Critical Elements serving as indicators for monitoring contamination and identifying pollution sources. Research shows significant contamination in groundwater near fertilizer plants, with concentrations of toxic metals exceeding drinking water limits.
