Exposure assessment of neonicotinoid insecticides and their metabolites in Chinese women during pregnancy: A longitudinal study

Gaga Mahai et al.

Summary: This study measured the concentrations of nine major neonicotinoid insecticides and ten main metabolites in urine samples from pregnant women. The results showed widespread exposure to these compounds in the human body, with concentrations decreasing throughout the trimesters. The study also found that maternal age, educational level, and household income were associated with the concentrations of these compounds.

Neonicotinoids, fipronil, chlorpyrifos, carbendazim, chlorotriazines, chlorophenoxy herbicides, bentazon, and selected pesticide transformation products in surface water and drinking water from northern Vietnam

Yanjian Wan et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the occurrence of selected pesticides in surface and drinking water in Vietnam. The major pesticides found were carbendazim and triazines in lake water, and triazines in river water. Higher concentrations of selected pesticides were found in tap water from Hanoi compared to the other provinces studied. Bottled water from Hanoi had lower concentrations of pesticide residues.

Agrochemicals in freshwater systems and their potential as endocrine disrupting chemicals: A South African context

Ilze Horak et al.

Summary: South Africa is the largest agrochemical user in sub-Saharan Africa, with a large number of registered pesticide products. Legacy and current-use pesticides are still detected in watercourses and wildlife, potentially leading to endocrine disruption effects. There is a need for more comprehensive studies on the levels of agricultural pesticides present and associated endocrine disrupting effects.

Organophosphate pesticides and progression of chronic kidney disease among children: A prospective cohort study

Melanie H. Jacobson et al.

Summary: The study found that urinary DAP metabolites were positively associated with renal injury biomarkers KIM-1 and 8-OHdG, as well as eGFR in children with CKD. These findings provide preliminary evidence that DAP metabolites in urine are related to subclinical kidney injury in children with CKD, which may indicate future clinical events.

Prenatal exposure to organophosphate and pyrethroid insecticides and the herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and size at birth in urban pregnant women

Arin A. Balalian et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between birth outcomes and urinary biomarkers of pyrethroids, organophosphates, and 2,4-D among healthy pregnant women living in New York City. The results showed that certain concentrations of organophosphate substances were negatively associated with head circumference in boys. In linear regression models, it was found that concentrations of TCPy were inversely associated with head circumference in boys, while higher concentrations of 2,4-D were inversely associated with head circumference among girls.
