Degradation of neurotoxin β-N-methylamino-L-alanine by UV254 activated persulfate: Kinetic model and reaction pathways

Boyin Yan et al.

Summary: The degradation of BMAA in the UV254/persulfate system follows a pseudofirst-order kinetic model, with SO4· identified as the major radical contributing to the degradation. The pH significantly affects the degradation rate, with the highest rate achieved at pH 8. However, the presence of water matrix components inhibits the degradation process.

Degradation of micropolluants in flow-through VUV/UV/H2O2 reactors: Effects of H2O2 dosage and reactor internal diameter

Lumeng Zhan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the degradation of ATZ, SMX, and MET in flow-through VUV/UV/H2O2 reactors, focusing on the effects of H2O2 dosage and reactor ID. Results showed efficient degradation of micropollutants with pseudo first-order kinetics in the reactors. The study highlighted the influence of H2O2 dosage and reactor ID on reactor performances and the inadequacy of the SSA model in flow-through reactors.

Modeling degradation kinetics of gemfibrozil and naproxen in the UV/chlorine system: Roles of reactive species and effects of water matrix

Huaying Liu et al.

Summary: This study quantified the specific roles of radical species in the UV/chlorine oxidation degradation of gemfibrozil and naproxen. The results showed that primary reactive species and secondary species dominated the degradation in pure water, while Cl2·- and ClO· contributed significantly to the enhanced degradation in the presence of Cl-. The presence of HCO3- facilitated degradation, while dissolved organic matter inhibited the process. The constructed model successfully predicted the oxidation degradation kinetics in real waters, with center dot OH and CO3·- as the predominant reactive species.
