Phytoremediation of soil contaminated with nickel, cadmium and cobalt

Edyta Boros-Lajszner et al.

Summary: The pot experiment found that Elymus elongatus is suitable for Cd(2+) phytoextraction, while Elymus elongatus and Zea mays are suitable for phytostabilisation of Cd(2+) and Co(2+). Both plant species met the conditions for phytostabilisation, with limited transport of metals from the roots to the above-ground parts.

Summary: The foliar application of ZnSO4 center dot 7H(2)O (0.5%) + FeSO4 center dot 7H(2)O (0.5%) at pre-flowering and pod formation stages significantly enhanced grain and straw yield, as well as Zn and Fe concentration and uptake in lentil cultivation. This treatment also showed the highest benefit:cost ratio among all the tested combinations, indicating its potential economic returns.
