Exploring the Synthesis of Alkali Metal Anti-perovskites

Kwangnam Kim et al.

Summary: The development of solid-state batteries has been hindered by limited understanding of ion mobility control in solid electrolytes (SEs). However, the present study combines theory and experiments to explore the synthesizability of marginally stable anti-perovskite (AP) SEs, which are predicted to exhibit high ionic mobility for Li+, Na+, and K+. The study finds a linear correlation between lattice distortion and stabilization temperature, indicating that APs with the highest ionic mobility require the highest synthesis temperature. The experimental results align well with the computational predictions, suggesting that a compound's zero K decomposition energy is an efficient descriptor for synthesizing new SEs.

Jahn-Teller Distortion-Stabilized Halide Double Perovskites with Unusual Rock-Salt-type Ordering of Divalent B-Site Cations

Guoqi Ji et al.

Summary: In this work, a novel halide double perovskite material with rock-salt-ordered divalent B-site cations is reported. The stability of the rock-salt-ordered structure is achieved by introducing divalent transition metal cations with partially filled d orbitals. The synthesized material exhibits a small bandgap suitable for visible light absorption, providing a new design strategy for optoelectronic applications.

Bandgap engineering and thermodynamic stability of oxyhalide and chalcohalide antiperovskites

Zhiyang Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the optoelectronic properties of A3YX antiperovskites, focusing on bandgap engineering and thermodynamic stability through density functional theory calculations, chemical synthesis, and material characterizations. It is found that bandgap can be effectively engineered through element substitutions at specific sites, while thermodynamic stability is strongly influenced by constituent ions.

B-Site Columnar-Ordered Halide Double Perovskites A2B(II)′0.5B(II)X5 with B(II)′/Vacancy Disordering

Chuanzhou Han et al.

Summary: The new class of B-site columnar-ordered halide double perovskites A(2)B(II)'B-0.5(II)X-5 has been synthesized by replacing some cations and vacancies in B-site columnar-ordered halide double perovskites, showing relatively small bandgaps and good air and thermal stability. This work expands the family of B-site columnar-ordered halide double perovskites and offers guidance for theory-driven material exploration.

Design of High-Performance Lead-Free Quaternary Antiperovskites for Photovoltaics via Ion Type Inversion and Anion Ordering

Dan Han et al.

Summary: The emergence of halide double perovskites has opened up new possibilities for lead-free and stable photovoltaic absorbers. However, most halide double perovskites possess large band gaps or transitions that are not ideal for solar cell applications. By designing and screening pnictogen-based quaternary antiperovskites, researchers have identified five stable compounds with promising properties for photovoltaic applications, showing potential for efficiencies exceeding 29%, comparable to or higher than lead-based perovskites.

B-Site Columnar-Ordered Halide Double Perovskites: Theoretical Design and Experimental Verification

Guoqi Ji et al.

Summary: In this work, it is demonstrated that the electronic dimensionality and properties of halide double perovskites can be modulated by arranging the B-site cations. A family of new halide double perovskites with columnar-ordered B-site cations were proposed and successfully synthesized, showing small bandgaps, good carrier effective masses, and stability. This provides a new prototype structure for potential optoelectronic semiconductors with expanded possibilities within the family of halide double perovskites.

Enhanced perovskite electronic properties via A-site cation engineering

Xufeng Xiao et al.

Summary: Organic-inorganic halide perovskites are promising candidates for low-cost photovoltaics and opto-electronics. This study compares the optoelectronic properties of acetamidinium and guanidinium mixed methylammonium lead iodide perovskites, revealing the potential impact of A-site cation on carrier mobility. While the A-site cations do not affect the bandgap of the perovskites, the mobility of the Ace mixed perovskite is significantly enhanced, leading to a high efficiency in solar cells applications.
