Development of MOF Reinforcement for Structural Stability and Toughness Enhancement of Biodegradable Bioinks

Cheng-Tien Hsieh et al.

Summary: Due to the multiple features required for bioinks, options are limited. Incorporating a metal-organic framework, ZIF-8, in the polyurethane-gelatin bioink resulted in significant structural stability and modulus enhancement. However, high concentrations of ZIF-8 may lead to cell senescence or death, with the optimal concentration for cell compatibility being around 875 μg/mL. The reinforcement effect of ZIF-8 and its drug-loading/sensing possibilities offer new opportunities for MOF use in 3D bioprinting.

Dual Role of Missing-Linker Defects Terminated by Acetate Ligands in a Zirconium-Based MOF in Promoting Photocatalytic Hydrogen Peroxide Production

Yoshifumi Kondo et al.

Summary: Defect engineering using acetic acid as a modulator on a zirconium-based metal-organic framework (UiO-66-NH2) effectively enhances the photocatalytic performance in hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) production. Introducing missing-linker defects with acetate ligands promotes the linker-to-cluster charge transfer (LCCT) process and suppresses H2O2 decomposition, leading to higher H2O2 concentration under light irradiation.
