Anion π-π Stacking for Improved Lithium Transport in Polymer Electrolytes

Lixin Qiao et al.

Summary: This article introduces two highly lithium-ion conductive and solvent-free polymer electrolytes using benzene-based lithium salts LiBTFSI and LiTPBTFSI, and reveals the reason for the performance improvement through molecular dynamics simulations. The results show that pi-pi stacking interactions can be an effective strategy for designing novel electrolyte salts, providing a new approach for achieving highly selective lithium-ion conductive polymer electrolytes.

Amyloid Aggregation under the Lens of Liquid-Liquid Phase Separation

Yanting Xing et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) in amyloid aggregation at the molecular level through molecular dynamics simulations, providing insights into the critical concentrations and saturation behavior of the process. The results offer a unified picture of amyloid aggregation across a wide range of concentrations within the LLPS framework, enhancing the understanding of amyloid diseases and facilitating the development of novel amyloid-based functional materials.

Investigation of Agglomeration in the Presence of Oiling Out in the Antisolvent Crystallization Process

Liping Wang et al.

Summary: This research focuses on controlling agglomeration in the antisolvent crystallization process of propylparaben in ethanol-water system in the presence of oiling out. The use of process analytical technology tools helped detect different stages of the oiling out crystallization process. The addition of ultrasound was found to reduce agglomeration depending on the initial application time.

Complex structures arising from the self-assembly of a simple organic salt

Riccardo Montis et al.

Summary: Molecular self-assembly is the spontaneous association of simple molecules into larger and ordered structures, and it plays a crucial role in the rational design of materials. The study of fampridine hydrochloride salts has revealed the emergence of complex self-assembled structures from simple organic salts, demonstrating the potential for designing organic crystalline materials.

Study of hydrogen bonding interactions in ethylene glycol-water binary solutions by Raman spectroscopy

Ying Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the variations in hydrogen bonding interactions and conformations of EG-H2O binary solutions induced by EG volume fraction using Raman spectroscopy. Remarkable changes in hydrogen bonding networks were observed at a mixing volume ratio of 0.5, with water molecules' hydrogen bonds initially strengthening and then weakening with increasing EG concentration, leading to a shift in dominant association structure from H2O-H2O to EG-H2O in the binary solutions. This study presents a simple yet effective method for studying EG-H2O binary solutions, which shows promising potential and can be easily applied to other mixing scenarios.

Reentrant liquid condensate phase of proteins is stabilized by hydrophobic and non-ionic interactions

Georg Krainer et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that cellular proteins that form condensates at low salt concentrations can reenter a phase-separated regime at high salt concentrations, driven by hydrophobic and non-ionic interactions. This sheds light on the cooperation of hydrophobic and non-ionic interactions as general driving forces in the condensation process, with implications for biomolecular condensates.
