Recycling and utilization of calcium carbide slag-current status and new opportunities

Xuzhong Gong et al.

Summary: Coal is the dominant energy source in China, with 70% of polyvinyl chloride produced from coal-based CaC2. The solid waste generated from this process, known as calcium carbide slag (CCS), is mainly accumulated and poses environmental risks. However, CCS can be recycled to reduce the need for limestone extraction, leading to reduced CO2 emissions and solid waste pollution.

Influencing factors and evaluation system for Carbon-Calcium pellet performance in a pyrolysis furnace

Shaowu Yin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the factors influencing the performance of composite pellets in a pyrolysis furnace and establishes a comprehensive performance-evaluation system. Results show that different material ratios, temperatures, and times have a significant impact on pellet performance. CaO thorn coke and CaO thorn anthracite exhibit superior comprehensive properties compared to other raw materials in all aspects.

Influence of feed architecture on heat and mass transfer in calcium carbide electric furnace

Xuan-Kai Zhang et al.

Summary: This study establishes a mathematical model to analyze the effects of feed on heat and mass transfer characteristics in CaC2 electric furnace, and finds that switching from traditional powder feed to compressed feed can significantly increase CaC2 production and reduce energy consumption. Additionally, smaller sizes of compressed feed particles show greater advantages in increasing output.

Case study of a novel low rank coal to calcium carbide process based on techno-economic assessment

Hailong Huo et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the techno-economic performance of a novel low rank coal to CaC2 process, and found that increasing material temperature has a greater impact on system efficiency compared to adjusting fuel composition. Variations in CaC2 price and power consumption significantly affect the net present value of the process.

Preparation of CaO-containing carbon pellets from coking coal and calcium oxide: Effects of temperature, pore distribution and carbon structure on compressive strength in pyrolysis furnace

Xiao-min You et al.

Summary: The compressive strength of CaO-containing carbon pellets (CCCP) increased with the rise of pyrolysis temperature, as structural defects in carbon crystallites were gradually eliminated and more organized structures were formed. CCCP preheated at 750 degrees Celsius exhibited the highest compressive strength, with a positive correlation between compressive strength and pore-size homogeneity.
