The role of effectiveness factor on the modeling of methanol steam reforming over CuO/ZnO/Al2O3 catalyst in a multi-tubular reactor

Jimin Zhu et al.

Summary: A pseudo-homogeneous model for the methanol steam reforming process was developed to study the reaction kinetics, heat and mass transfer performances, and effectiveness factors. The results indicate that the methanol and CO concentrations in the reformate stream can be reduced to the desired range by optimizing the operating conditions.

Coupling Euler-Euler and Microkinetic Modeling for the Simulation of Fluidized Bed Reactors: an Application to the Oxidative Coupling of Methane

Daniele Micale et al.

Summary: This study proposes a numerical methodology that combines detailed microkinetic modeling and Eulerian-Eulerian methods for simulating industrial fluidized bed reactors. The accuracy and capability of the method were assessed by simulating lab and industrial reactor configurations using the oxidative coupling of methane as a showcase. The proposed framework also demonstrated a significant reduction in computational cost compared to linearizing the chemical source term.

Fluid-particle drag force measurements from particle-resolved CFD simulations of flow past random arrays of ellipsoidal particles

Kevin E. Buettner et al.

Summary: The lack of constitutive drag laws for non-spherical particles in fluid-particle flows highlights the need for dedicated laws to replace previous ad-hoc methods. Computational fluid dynamics simulations were used to explore important variables for future model development and propose a preliminary non-spherical drag model based on the results.

A model for the kinetics of high-temperature reactions between polydisperse volcanic ash and SO2 gas

Fabian B. Wadsworth et al.

Summary: The rapid calcium diffusion in rhyolitic volcanic ash particles exposed to hot SO2 atmospheres plays a crucial role in predicting the reaction between rhyolite and SO2. By analyzing experimental data and formulating mathematical frameworks, researchers have identified the temperature-dependent calcium diffusivity in rhyolite and proposed different regimes for the diffusion process. Spatially resolved data and model comparisons further confirm the importance of surface reaction rates in predicting volcanic reactions and suggest potential applications of the framework in predicting sulfur budgets and iron oxidation during rhyolitic eruptions.
