Heterogeneous photo-Fenton degradation toward sulfonamide matrix over magnetic Fe3S4 derived from MIL-100(Fe)

Jing Hang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the facile synthesis of magnetic Fe3S4 from MIL-100(Fe) and thioacetamide under hydrothermal conditions, which exhibits excellent oxidative degradation performance towards sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in the photo-Fenton process under both UV and visible light. Fe3S4 also shows high potential for total organic carbon (TOC) removal efficiency and recyclability in water treatment applications.

Controlling Metal Clusters in Breathing Metal-Organic Framework Nanostructures for Boosting Visible-Light-Induced middotOH Radical Formation

Yunyun Li et al.

Summary: In recent years, the presence of pharmaceuticals with high environmental risks in water cycles has become a concern. Conventional wastewater treatment processes are ineffective in removing these micropollutants. Advanced wastewater treatment processes using metal-catalyzed reactions show great potential in achieving high removal rates. This study explored the use of metal cluster-induced ROS formation as a means of degrading antibiotics. The results showed that the oxidation performance was highly dependent on the metal used. Fe-oxo and Cr-oxo were found to significantly promote the photo-Fenton process, while Al-oxo showed promise as a heterogeneous Fenton-like catalyst.

A novel approach to prepare Cu(I)Zn@MIL-100(Fe) adsorbent with high CO adsorption capacity, CO/CO2 selectivity and stability via controlled host-guest redox reaction

Van Nhieu Le et al.

Summary: A novel Cu(I)-incorporated MIL-100(Fe) adsorbent for CO/CO2 separation was prepared using a host-guest redox strategy by exploiting the co-addition of Zn(II) and Cu(II). The addition of Zn(II) resulted in a higher Cu(I) yield of the adsorbent and significantly increased the CO/CO2 selectivity of the resulting Cu(I)Zn@MIL-100(Fe)-10.

Nannan Geng et al.

Summary: In this study, a new ultrasound/H2O2/MOF system was applied for tetracycline hydrochloride removal using environmentally-friendly FeMOFs. MIL-88B demonstrated the best catalytic performance, and the synergistic effect between ultrasound and Fenton reaction was found to be important for tetracycline hydrochloride removal. Under optimal conditions, a higher first-order kinetic rate constant was achieved compared to individual ultrasound or MIL-88B/H2O2 systems.

C-, N-Vacancy defect engineered polymeric carbon nitride towards photocatalysis: viewpoints and challenges

Abhinandan Kumar et al.

Summary: Graphite-like carbon nitride (g-C3N4; GCN) is a metal-free polymeric semiconductor material with fascinating physicochemical and photoelectronic structural features, yet its wide-range applicability is limited by inherent drawbacks such as rapid reassembly of photocarriers and low specific surface area. Introducing vacancies into the framework of GCN to generate 0D point defects has shown potential in manipulating optical absorption, radiative carrier isolation, and surface photoreactions. Various advanced strategies for controlled designing of vacancy-rich GCN have been explored, highlighting the significance of defect engineering on optical absorption, charge isolation, and surface photoreaction ability in GCN. Applications of defect engineered GCN include photocatalytic water splitting, CO2 conversion, N-2 fixation, pollutant degradation, and H2O2 production.
