Functional novel ligand based palladium(II) separation and recovery from e-waste using solvent-ligand approach

Aminul Islam et al.

Summary: The global e-waste generation is expected to increase significantly in the coming years, which may have a negative impact on health and the environment if not managed properly. This study focuses on recovering palladium from ceramic capacitors using a solvent-ligand process, with findings showing high purity recovery of Pd(II) under optimized conditions and minimal environmental impact compared to other methods. This sustainable approach to precious metal recovery contributes to the circular economy.

Gold recovery from secondary waste of PCBs by electro-Cl2 leaching in brine solution and solvo-chemical separation with tri-butyl phosphate

Sadia Ilyas et al.

Summary: This study investigated sustainable recycling of gold from the secondary stream of waste printed circuit boards using brine leaching with electro-Cl-2 and solvo-chemical strategies. The gold leaching efficiency reached over 99% under specific conditions, and the study successfully eliminated the use of highly toxic lixiviants in gold metallurgy while promoting the regeneration and reusability of the organic solvent TBP.

Green extraction of gold(III) and copper(II) from chloride media by palm kernel fatty acid distillate

Siu Hua Chang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that palm kernel fatty acid distillate (PKFAD) is an effective green extractant for gold(III) and copper(II) extraction, with a high selectivity for gold(III) at pH(eq) of 2. Different stripping agents were able to efficiently strip gold(III) and copper(II) from loaded PKFAD.

Separation and Recovery of Gold(III), Palladium(II) and Platinum(IV) by Solvent Extraction Using a New β-Diketone Derivative from Acidic Solutions

Elzbieta Radzyminska-Lenarcik et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that a new amine derivative EDAB-acac can effectively separate a mixture containing Au(III), Pd(II), and Pt(IV) ions in an acidic medium (HCl) using solvent extraction. The impact of acid concentration and solvent type on separation efficiency was discussed, with high donor number solvents enhancing extraction. A 3-step stripping process for the recovery of Pd(II), Au(III), and Pt(IV) from the mixture was proposed, making it useful for e-waste recycling.

Optimization of process parameters for the selective leaching of copper, nickel and isolation of gold from obsolete mobile phone PCBs

Mudila Dhanunjaya Rao et al.

Summary: This study developed a simple, eco-friendly, and efficient leaching process to dissolve copper and nickel from obsolete mobile phone PCBs for the isolation of a gold-rich residue. Through optimizing leaching parameters, quantitative dissolution of base metals was achieved while gold remained untouched. The optimized leaching process avoids the need for high temperatures, reduces energy consumption and effluent generation, leading to cleaner processing of obsolete mobile phone PCBs for gold separation.

Gold recovery from precious metals in acidic media by using human hair waste as a new pretreatment-free green material

Dan Yu et al.

Summary: Human hair was found to have efficient adsorption and reduction capabilities for Au(III) to metallic gold, with melanin not involved in the adsorption process. L-Cystine and L-cysteine were identified to play a role in both the adsorption and reduction of Au(III). Additionally, successful recovery of pure gold was achieved through removal of Pt(IV) and Pd(II) from human hair waste.
