Enhanced Reactivity of Accessible Protons in Sodalite Cages of Faujasite Zeolite

Xinyu Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mild dealumination of Faujasite (FAU) zeolites under moderate ion exchange conditions and the effects of changes in accessible and active protons on propane reactions. The ratio of protons in sodalite cages can be manipulated by adjusting ammonium concentrations in ion exchange, impacting the dehydrogenation and cracking rates of propane. This study reveals the significance of proton accessibility and reactivity in sodalite cages on catalytic reactions.

Efficient uranium reduction of bacterial cellulose-MoS2 heterojunction via the synergistically effect of Schottky junction and S-vacancies engineering

Tao Chen et al.

Summary: Integration of schottky junction and defect engineering on adsorbent-semiconductors offers a promising strategy for photocatalytic reduction of U(VI). The BC-MoS2-x heterojunction exhibited high removal efficiency, cycle stability, and selective U(VI) removal in the presence of competing metal cations. The use of organic matter as a hole trapping agent to enhance U(VI) removal efficiency may pave the way for the development of rationally designed heterojunction photocatalysts.

Organic Structure-Directing Agent-Free Synthesis of Mordenite-Type Zeolites Driven by Al-Rich Amorphous Aluminosilicates

Ting Xiao et al.

Summary: MOR-type zeolites with a Si/Al ratio of up to 13 and crystallite sizes of around 60 nm were successfully synthesized from Al-rich aluminosilicates with additional SiO2 under seed-assisted hydrothermal conditions. The presence of pentacoordinated Al species in the Al-rich aluminosilicates played a decisive role in the OSDA-free synthesis of MOR-type zeolites, while control experiments using other starting reagents failed to yield the desired product.

Novel bismuth-based electrospinning materials for highly efficient capture of radioiodine

Zhenjiang Tian et al.

Summary: This study reported three novel bismuth-based iodine sorption materials with improved iodine capture capacities. Through hydrothermal treatment, active sites appeared on the fiber surface, enhancing the efficiency of iodine gas contact. The experimental results showed that the coating on the fiber surface significantly increased the iodine adsorption capacity, with elemental bismuth demonstrating a higher effective atomic utilization rate.

Efficient radon removal using fluorine-functionalized natural zeolite

Jaeeun Kang et al.

Summary: Radon (Rn) easily leaks into the environment through groundwater due to its high water solubility. This study conducted a redundancy analysis of Rn in groundwater and found a positive correlation between Rn and fluorine (F) concentrations, indicating F can support long-term retention of Rn in groundwater. Natural zeolite (NZ) and fluorine-functionalized natural zeolite (FFNZ) sorbents achieved significant removal of Rn from groundwater, with FFNZ showing higher efficiency due to its interaction with Rn through van der Waals force.

Comprehensive comparison of bismuth and silver functionalized nickel foam composites in capturing radioactive gaseous iodine

Zhenjiang Tian et al.

Summary: The Bi-Ni foam material has a higher iodine capture capacity, while the Ag-Ni foam material has faster sorption kinetics. The excellent sorption performances are attributed to the chemical reaction between Bi0/Ag0 particles and iodine gas, generating stable BiI3/AgI.
