Usage of biowashing to remove impurities and heavy metals in raw phosphogypsum and calcined phosphogypsum for cement paste preparation

Junchen Xiang et al.

Summary: This study presents a new method using biowashing to remove impurities in waste phosphogypsum (PG) and investigates its potential in cement paste preparation. The results show that biowashing effectively removes phosphorus, fluorine, and heavy metals in PG, improving the stability and mechanical properties of cement paste. Reaction chemistry of PbSO4 formation over Al2O3 sorbent

Aijia Zhang et al.

Summary: The reaction chemistry between PbCl2 and SO2 over Al2O3 surface is studied by quantum chemistry calculations. The results show that chemisorption mechanism is responsible for the adsorption of PbCl2 and SO2. The formation of PbSO4 is determined by the oxidation of SO2, with Al2O3 (001) surface exhibiting higher activity than Al2O3 (110) surface.

Removal and magnetic recovery of heavy metals and pesticides from soil by layered double hydroxides modified biotite

Hanhan Huang et al.

Summary: A novel LDH@Bt composite with a three-dimensional hierarchical structure was successfully fabricated via in-situ growth method. The LDHs were uniformly dispersed on the Bt surface, resulting in improved removal performance for Cu2+/Pb2+ heavy metals and GLY/MCP pesticides compared to LDHs and Bt alone. Kinetics of heavy metals and pesticides removal were well described by intraparticle diffusion and pseudo-second-order model. Adsorption isotherm data showed better accordance with Freundlich model for Cu(2+)and Pb2+, while Langmuir model fitted well with GLY and MCP data. Different adsorption mechanisms were proposed for the removal of Cu2+/Pb2+ by precipitation and GLY/MCP by surface adsorption. The application and recovery ability of LDH@Bt composite in soil were evaluated, showing promising potential for the remediation of heavy metals and pesticides contaminations.
