The hydrogen spillover effect. A misunderstanding story

Mohammed M. Bettahar

Summary: The controversial hydrogen spillover effect on metal catalysts supported on non-reducible oxides is caused by a misunderstanding of pioneer works. Hydroxyl groups on the oxide surface play a crucial role in the formation and reactivity of hydrogen spillover. The spillover process involves H/OH pairs that diffuse over the support through a thermodynamically neutral mechanism, contrary to the commonly believed hopping process.

Framework Zr Stabilized PtSn/Zr-MCM-41 as a Promising Catalyst for Non-oxidative Ethane Dehydrogenation

Jisheng Xu et al.

Summary: Non-oxidative ethane dehydrogenation to produce ethene is a promising route, and PtSn supported catalysts with different Zr promoters were investigated in this study. Strong interaction between ZrO2 and PtSn species promotes initial reactivity, while moderate interaction with framework Zr benefits the dispersion of metal particles and stabilization of metal species. The optimal PtSn/ZrM catalyst achieved outstanding initial ethane conversion and ethene selectivity, with improved coking tolerance and stability.

Ternary platinum-cobalt-indium nanoalloy on ceria as a highly efficient catalyst for the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane using CO2

Feilong Xing et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed a highly efficient Pt-Co-In ternary nanoalloy catalyst on CeO2 for CO2 oxidative dehydrogenation of propane, which shows high catalytic activity, C3H6 selectivity, stability, and CO2 utilization efficiency. The combination of platinum, indium, and cobalt improves the selectivity and reduction ability of CO2, and the stability is enhanced by CO2 activation ability of the alloy and oxygen releasing ability of the CeO2 support.

Insights into the doping effect of rare-earth metal on ZnAl2O4 supported PtSn catalyzed isobutane dehydrogenation

Jianfeng Liu et al.

Summary: The use of rare-earth metals (Y, La, Ce) as dopants to modify the ZnAl2O4 support in Pt-Sn catalyzed isobutane dehydrogenation shows promising results, with Pt-Sn/Ce-ZnAl2O4 exhibiting superior catalytic performance. Tailoring the composition and structure of oxide supports can provide additional insights for the design and optimization of isobutane dehydrogenation catalysts.

Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Propane to Propylene with Soft Oxidants via Heterogeneous Catalysis

Xiao Jiang et al.

Summary: Oxidative dehydrogenation of propane to propylene can be achieved using conventional oxygen-assisted dehydrogenation or soft oxidants. Soft oxidants play important roles in inhibiting overoxidation and improving propylene selectivity. Significant efforts have been focused on developing different catalysts with recent emphasis on halogens and hydrogen halides for ODHP processes.

Defect-Dependent Selective C-H/C-C Bond Cleavage of Propane in the Presence of CO2 over FeNi/Ceria Catalysts

Yehong Wang et al.

Summary: By controlling the defect concentrations of ceria supports over FeNi/ceria catalysts, selective C-H/C-C bond cleavage of propane with CO2 as the oxidant was achieved. Different defect concentrations in ceria supports led to distinct propane conversion selectivities, offering a new approach for the selective conversion of CO2 and alkanes.
