Tuning d-Band Center of Pt by PtCo-PtSn Heterostructure for Enhanced Oxygen Reduction Reaction Performance

Jinli Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, Sn and Co elements are introduced into Pt to form a PtCo-PtSn/C heterostructure for enhancing the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The results show that PtCo-PtSn/C exhibits remarkable ORR activity, high stability, and high mass activity in HClO4 solution.

Xinyue Zhu et al.

Summary: By dispersing Pt-Sn-2 clusters on highly ordered meso-porous Al2O3 supports, stabilizing Pt particles via the formation of Al-O-Pt bond, the stability and regenerability of Pt-Sn-2/meso-Al2O3 are effectively improved.

Evidence for H2-Induced Ductility in a Pt/Al2O3 Catalyst

Eleonora Vottero et al.

Summary: This study investigates the properties of a highly dispersed Pt/Al2O3 catalyst for industrial hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reactions using inelastic neutron scattering (INS) spectroscopy and DFT simulation. The results show that the INS spectra provide a unique fingerprint of the Pt/Al2O3 model morphology, size, H-coverage, and typology of Pt-H species.

A review of recent advances in hydrogen purification for selective removal of oxygen: Deoxo catalysts and reactor systems

Taejun Kim et al.

Summary: In response to climate change and the transition to sustainable energy systems, hydrogen (H-2) is seen as a promising alternative energy source. The combination of water electrolysis with renewable energy, known as green H-2, has gained significant attention globally. However, for the stable use of H-2 in fuel cells, its purity must meet required levels and be maintained consistently. Oxygen (O-2) impurities in H-2 steam must be controlled for safety, making catalytic purification crucial for the commercial application of green H-2. Despite being in the early stages, the development of catalytic purification technology, including catalyst and process development, is essential.

Evaluating acid and metallic site proximity in Pt/γ-Al2O3-Cl bifunctional catalysts through an atomic scale geometrical model

Ana T. F. Batista et al.

Summary: Quantifying the distances between metallic sites and acid sites is crucial for tuning the catalytic activity and selectivity of bifunctional catalysts. In this study, the distribution of platinum nano-particles and single atoms on an alumina support is analyzed using high resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy. A geometrical model is established to explain the variation in inter-site distances. The results show that the chlorine loading and alumina morphology have a significant impact on the inter-site distances, while the platinum loading has little effect.

Summary: The study investigates the adsorption modes and strength of CO on platinum catalysts supported on gamma-Al2O3, revealing that CO primarily occupies top sites on supported Pt clusters. Compared to Pt(111), CO coverage is higher on supported Pt clusters and cluster reconstruction is observed at high coverage.

Carbon-Supported Pt-SnO2 Catalysts for Oxygen Reduction Reaction over a Wide Temperature Range: Rotating Disk Electrode Study

Ruslan M. Mensharapov et al.

Summary: Pt/C and Pt/x-SnO2/C catalysts were synthesized using a polyol method and their kinetic properties towards oxygen reduction reaction were studied by a rotating disk electrode technique in a temperature range from 1 to 50 degrees C. The addition of x-SnO2 did not reduce the catalyst activity in the temperature range of 1-30 degrees C, but a rise in temperature up to 50 degrees C resulted in a composite catalyst activity reduction of about 30%.

Isolating the contributions of surface Sn atoms in the bifunctional behaviour of PtSn CO oxidation electrocatalysts

Haoliang Huang et al.

Summary: The study prepared Sn-ad-Pt/C catalysts using surface organometallic chemistry to investigate the active oxygenated species and nature of the second component in CO oxidation on Pt-based bimetallic electrocatalysts. The results revealed the role of Pt-4.5-Sn-(OH)(1.5) as the active species responsible for the bifunctional mechanism at low overpotentials.

Cluster Catalysis with Lattice Oxygen: Tracing Oxygen Transport from a Magnetite (001) Support onto Small Pt Clusters

Sebastian Kaiser et al.

Summary: This study differentiates the role of lattice oxygen in oxidation catalysis on reducible oxide-supported small metal clusters by investigating the path of lattice oxygen onto Pt clusters and studying the influence of cluster size. The results show that CO oxidation occurs on the highly reactive oxygen on the Pt clusters, leading to restructuring following lattice oxygen reverse spillover.
