Stochastic resonance in deformable potential with time-delayed feedback

Y. J. Wadop Ngouongo et al.

Summary: "This study explores the stochastic resonance phenomenon with memory effects for a Brownian particle in a deforming potential, incorporating time-delayed feedback to modulate the system's behavior. It is found that time-delayed feedback significantly influences the occurrence of resonance, leading to double resonances in the system."

A novel COVID-19 epidemiological model with explicit susceptible and asymptomatic isolation compartments reveals unexpected consequences of timing social distancing

Jana L. Gevertz et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new epidemiological model to analyze the impact of different rate control strategies on the spread of COVID-19. It also explores the critical implementation delay in issuing social distancing mandates and the importance of timely action to meet healthcare resource capacity. The study reveals that reopening society too quickly may offset the progress made under initial social distancing guidelines, but careful design of relaxation strategies can help mitigate negative effects.

Bi-directional impulse chaos control in crystal growth

Zi-Xuan Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, an analytical periodic solution for the swing in the flexible shaft rotating-lifting (FSRL) system of mono-silicon crystal puller is derived using perturbation analysis. A bi-directional impulse control method is proposed for chaos suppression, which minimizes the impact on the crystallization process. The effectiveness and robustness of the method are validated through simulations, demonstrating its superiority over single direction impulse control.

Ratchet universality in the bidirectional escape from a symmetric potential well

R. Chacon et al.

Summary: This work discusses bidirectional escape from a symmetric metastable potential well induced by symmetry-breaking and how the optimal enhancement of directed ratchet escape is found to occur when the wave form of the zero-average periodic force matches a universal wave form. It also explores the destruction of the nonescaping basin for driving amplitudes systematically lower than those corresponding to a symmetric periodic force having the same period.
