Ground coffee waste-derived carbon for adsorptive removal of caffeine: Effect of surface chemistry and porous structure

Daniel N. Mengesha et al.

Summary: Carbon-based adsorbents have high adsorption capacity for caffeine due to their porosity and surface functionality. However, the main limiting factor for high performance has not been addressed. In this study, nitrogen-doped carbon materials were synthesized from coffee waste, and the adsorption experiments revealed that nitrogen type and pore size distribution are important factors affecting adsorption.
